Bell River Catchment

Restoration Economics: Unlocking Small-Scale Environmental Planting Potential in NSW

Overview

The Bell River & Molong Creek catchments covers 187,784 ha encompassing the towns of Molong and Stuart Town

Public Land

The public land estate (National Parks and State Forest) represent 1,929 ha or 1% of the catchment area on the eastern and southern boundaries

Carbon Yields

Environmental Plantings (Block Configuration) yields vary across the Catchment from 5.8 – 33.0 ACCUs / ha / yr, averaged over a 25- year crediting period.

Carbon Target Areas

Areas which exceed 10 ACCUs / Ha / yr are proposed to be the target carbon areas for the project.
10 ACCUs / Ha / yr equates to a gross margin of approximately $600 / ha, which is the point at which carbon yields typically overtake grazing yields.
This assumption will be tested as part of the project.

Target Properties

424 properties containing carbon yielding areas greater than 10 ACCUs / ha / yr exist in the catchment.
These represent the target properties for the project.
